The Village of Riverton is working with a local developer to promote and encourage commercial growth in the Northwest Part of the Riverton exit off I-72. The parcel is located on Overpass Road. Of the 38 acres in this area, 10 acres has been purchased is being developed by Triple J Brothers Inc. They are currently building a 50’ by 280’ storage building with an addition of office space being planned for the near future for use by S & W Contractors of IL.
The remaining 28 acres are available for commercial development. All of this property is inside the corporate village limits of Riverton, IL and is zoned as “Commercial”. The Village has extended electric and gas service to the parcels. The Village is working on extending water to service the property and is pursuing a Rural Business Development Grant to extend sewer service. There are talks under way with some businesses to expand their operations by building on this site.
Commercial growth around the interstate interchange would be of tremendous benefit to the Village of Riverton and has been a part of the long-term growth plan for Riverton as projected by the Village’s Comprehensive Plan for the last 20 years.
In 2012, the Village annexed the property on the NW and SE part of the interchange in order to compete in getting SIC Recycling to locate in Riverton. The Village was successful in that bid and SIC Recycling has been a great addition to the Village. SIC Recycling brought 25 jobs to Riverton.
This has created interest in growth in this area. In 2016, the Village annexed the 17 acres east of SIC Recycling in the Village and it currently is being used by Martin Transportation as a truck depot/hub for their operations. Martin Transportation has consolidated other operations into this location and has more than 60 employees,
In addition, the Village is currently working with property owners on the SW corner of the interchange to get them annexed into the Village.
Other recent commercial development in Riverton includes Country Lane Memory Care at 875 Riverton Rd. This facility is a 50 bed facility for Alzheimer’s patients that opened in 2017. This created 32 jobs.
